1. The Challenge: Extreme Altitude & Mission-Critical Connectivity
The RDNFO is the digital nervous system of Peru, providing fiber optic connectivity to remote regions across the Andes. PRONATEL required a complete overhaul of the cooling systems at their core nodes. The project presented three high-stakes challenges:
Extreme High Altitude: Several nodes are located in Cusco and Puno at altitudes exceeding 3,800 meters (12,500 ft). Standard air conditioners lose significant cooling capacity and risk compressor oil-return failure in thin mountain air.
Andean Logistics: Equipment had to endure hundreds of miles of transport over rugged mountain terrain, demanding extreme structural integrity to prevent refrigerant leaks or frame deformation.
National Security Standards: The project mandated N+1 redundancy and 24/7/365 uninterrupted operation, as any cooling failure would lead to a nationwide internet outage.
2. The Hailos Solution: Industrial-Grade Engineering
Zhengzhou Hailos Refrigeration provided a bespoke engineering package tailored specifically for the Peruvian geography and the MTC (Ministry of Transport) technical specifications:
Altitude Compensation Technology: We utilized high-static pressure EC Centrifugal Fans with customized control logic. This ensured sufficient airflow volume even at 3,800m altitude, maintaining a Sensible Heat Ratio (SHR) above 90% to protect sensitive fiber-optic switching hardware.
"Fortress" Build Quality: To combat transport vibrations and harsh site conditions, Hailos upgraded all cabinets to 0.8mm premium galvanized steel. Furthermore, all internal refrigerant lines were constructed with 1.0mm wall-thickness seamless copper tubes, far exceeding the industry standard of 0.7mm.
Localized Power Integration: Recognizing Peru’s specific electrical grid, the units were factory-certified for 220V/380V at 60Hz frequency, eliminating the need for external transformers and ensuring 100% electrical compatibility.
Advanced Monitoring: Every unit was equipped with SNMP/Modbus cards, allowing the PRONATEL Network Operations Center (NOC) in Lima to monitor real-time temperature and alarm logs across all remote nodes via Ethernet.
